Summary: In March 2026 House R Us did a fantastic job repairing and replacing our roof (+uninstall/re-install solar). Oren was honest, helpful and very professional. Easy 5 star service.

Details: We had a leaking roof that I suspected started when we had solar panels installed during the pandemic. The solar company (SunRun) came in several times to re-seal the panels and we even tried to patch the roof ourselves, but it became clear that we needed a roofer to come in and do the job. I cast a wide net and got quotes from 10 different roofing companies to see what price ranges and services were available.
A major issue is that we have two sets of solar panels from two different companies (a headache by itself), half we owned from one company and the other half are leased (SunRun). For roof replacement, most roofers will subcontract a "solar guy" to do the uninstall/reinstall of the solar panels before and after the roof is done. SunRun required license and proof of insurance of any third-party roofer, and I made it clear to all the roofers that I would not start work without getting approval first. We originally chose one of the lowest bids, but they had a lot of trouble getting the proof of insurance certificate. After a few weeks of trying to just get the paperwork from the subcontractor, I was getting frustrated since we missed a good repair window and rain was forecasted to return. What turned out to be the decisive factor was, though out that whole time, Jill (the office manager at House R Us) continued to follow-up with me since I had not signed any contract and no work had started, and had me schedule a second meeting with Oren (owner of House R Us). I remembered Oren because he was the most professional of all the roofers I had met during the first round of estimates, but other companies had submitted lower quotes than him. Oren is all about being honest about his company and the work that they do. He showed me how to check Contractor's licenses on www.cslb.ca.gov for reputable companies. He was very knowledgable about the roof leak and the interior damage from the leak and how to deal with insurance companies and the solar company. I asked if he could provide the paperwork and insurance certificate, and he had it ready for me the very next morning. He was quickly approved by SunRun and the project started very quickly. All the solar panels were uninstalled in a day and demo started right after. They replaced all the decking where the leaks occurred and found some other trouble areas that needed repair as well. They did the full roof, which was a mix of pitched and flat that required a different type of roofing (torch down). Full work took about a week but we are very happy with our new roof and all our solar panels are working just like new. Oren was involved during the entire process (his crew did all the roof work) and we was always communicating through each step. Thanks Oren and House R Us!
