Transforming a Patio into a Dream Catio

At Ivy Builders, we love tackling unique challenges, and our recent project is a perfect example of our commitment to turning dreams into a reality. We were approached by a client who envisioned transforming their covered patio into a catio — a perfect play space for their feline friends. Excited by the challenge, our team was determined to make this vision come alive.

Understanding the Challenge

Before we stepped in, the patio had great potential, but it was nothing more than an unused space. Our client reached out to us, expressing their frustrations in finding a contractor willing or able to undertake the project. They had already consulted with several companies, but either the quotes were exorbitant, or the contractors simply didn’t see the potential for what they envisioned.

After discussing the project, which involved enclosing the patio and incorporating special features for their cats, it was clear that we needed to bring in our creativity, expertise, and a keen eye for detail.

Our Approach

We began with an initial consultation, where our team — consisting of Michael, Matt, and Nick — worked closely with the client. We examined their rudimentary drawings, took precise measurements, and asked important questions to fully understand their needs.

Once we nailed down the specifics, we provided a detailed estimate and outlined our process. Our commitment to maintaining open channels of communication meant we kept the client informed every step of the way, whether through in-person meetings or texts.

The actual construction work was executed by Fernando and Steven, two highly skilled members of our team. Both are known for their exceptional craftsmanship and work ethic. Despite the heat, their dedication to the project was apparent; they only took brief breaks and kept the work area tidy each day.

Overcoming Obstacles

A notable challenge was that Fernando was not initially experienced in building vertical features like perches and bridges. However, he embraced this opportunity to learn and innovate. In fact, he even prepared some components at home based on our client’s ideas!

Fernando and Steven's teamwork was a sight to behold, as they transformed the basic concept into a beautiful catio. They readily incorporated the client’s suggestions, demonstrating our mantra: measure twice, cut once. Their ability to adapt and make changes as needed was crucial to the project's success.

The Final Transformation

After several days of hard work, the transformation was complete. Our client was thrilled with the final result, and we were proud to have delivered a stunning space that not only beautified their home but also enriched the lives of their beloved cats.

“Before you hire 'The Catio Guy' or 'Catopia', give Ivy Builders a call. I couldn’t be happier with what they created for us. Fernando and Steven did an exceptional job, and their attention to detail is commendable. We, and the cats, love the final product!” — Beth E. K. --- Homeowner
