Called to request an appointment, and he was at my home first thing the next morning at 8 a.m. - exactly on time. He fixed the problem quickly, was polite, courteous, and most importantly, very fair in his pricing. Mr. Cox is the first electrician in Austin that I would recommend and I will definitely use him again. A+ service.

One of the best Austin electricians I've met. James and his crew did an amazing job fixing the un fixable. We had a mess of wires that was a hazard to anyone who came near it. Not up to code and had to be. The electrical repairs had been done by the former owner who's DIY electrical skills left something to be desired. If you need a master electrician look no further.

I had a light pole/street lamp out and a ceiling fan light that was not working properly. It was not a major repair job, but I knew very little about electrical work. I called Cox Electric after repeated attempts to get in touch with Holcomb Electric who did not answer the telephone. I guess they did not need the business.

I spoke with James Cox on a Friday and told him the problem I had. I scheduled an appointment only for the light pole because I forgot about the ceiling fan light. He scheduled the appointment knowing I had children and needed to get them to school. I asked him to be lenient on the arrival time which he said he had no problem with. Most contractors will not do this.

I attempted to call James on Monday and let him know about the ceiling fan light repair because I did not want to surprise him with additional work. I had to leave him a message because he did not answer.

On the day of the appointment, James arrived right on time. I know he received my message because he immediately asked about the ceiling fan light. He fixed that within minutes. The light pole light he had to rewire the control box to the circuit breaker box because the original installers, Holcomb Electric, drilled the anchor through the ground wire. Holcomb Electric should have realized the problem and fixed it before installing the light pole, but they did not. The exterior of my home is made out of limestone and I'm glad because the wiring inside the control box to the light pole was arcing inside onto the masonry and had burned out the ground wire. Naturally, the breaker popped. Holcomb Electric never even connected the ground wire...well they did, but to the hot line. If my home was made out of wood, I would have hated to see the end result.

Once James identified the problem, he offered pros and cons about fixing the problem. I asked him to replace the wiring. He did so in about 45 minutes. The light pole is in good working order and the ground is now connected. So now I do not have to worry about my kids grabbing a light pole and being electrocuted.

James was polite the entire time. While speaking with him, I realized he grew up where I was from. He was knowledgeable about his work and showed a strong work ethic. Turns out my family members are custom home builders and own a roofing business. Because of James service, I told him I would refer him to my family members and maybe they could use his services in the future. His price was reasonable especially being I know very little about electrical work. I certainly would use Cox Electric for additional repairs as needed.

This was the most affordable service we could find. They arrived right on time, within an hour of calling them! Also, we needed them for a possible repair that the inspector had noticed when we were selling our house; it turned out the inspector was wrong and the electrician from Cox Electric didn't even charge us anything! He drove out here and ended up just writing us an expert opinion for free. Couldn't be happier.

We recently built a studio addition and needed electricity installed. Like most people, we really researched the ins and outs of the project so that we would be able to understand how to explain our needs to our electrician, vice versa, and ultimately not be taken by those who may be scrupulous or incompetent. We contacted nearly a dozen companies, some big and some solo with mixed results. After getting about half a dozen out to our project for bids, we became more familiar with those who charged us more merely because of their big name (translated to mean that you would be paying for their overhead) and the size of our project (small) to those who wanted to do the work but did not want to pull permits.

We randomly stumbled across James Cox and his company on Yelp. We were hesitant initially, based on the limited reviews, but that didn't stop us. James was prompt and came over when promised to bid on our project. We explained what we needed and he took the time to explain the process to us and recommended a few options we hadn't thought about. He then worked up a very fair bid based on what we had requested. We learned that James had several years experience at a big company prior to starting his own company. We really respected the fact that he was a small business owner, a straight forward kind of guy, and you could tell that he took pride in his work and that he was the type of person in which his reputation meant everything.

James and his crew came out to begin work on our project. They handled everything with the City of Austin regarding permitting and we never had to do anything on that end. He and his crew appeared on time as promised. His crew was polite, worked diligently, and when they made any mistakes (which amounted to 1 very small mistake in cutting into a sprinkler line), they acknowledged it and corrected it promptly. They cleaned up after themselves and were very courteous to my entire family.

Because the project spanned several weeks and in phases, James did not insist on payment upfront, but requested payment in installments based on meeting certain work milestones with the final payment contingent upon satisfaction of the work and passing of the final city inspection. Contacting James has been easy as he responds to both phone and e-mails.

We have been really pleased with James and his crew. They are true professionals and very skilled in their craft. They are competent, honest, and take the time to listen and to provide explanation as to their work and your project. It's true that a good electrician is hard to find, but I don't think you would be disappointed if you went with this company. I would use James again and would recommend him without reservation to any of my friends, co-workers, and/or family members.
