Transforming a Kitchen Sink Setup
Transforming a Kitchen Sink Setup
At Drains & Things, we believe that no plumbing problem should disrupt your daily routine. Recently, we had the opportunity to assist Cory, a homeowner in Tampa, who faced a frustrating challenge with his kitchen garbage disposal.
The Before: A Plumbing Headache
Cory reached out to us when his garbage disposal stopped working. Upon arrival, our expert plumber, Mike, quickly assessed the situation. What he discovered was rather unexpected: the drain was cemented to the sink — a problematic remnant of a previous DIY home improvement project that didn’t go as planned. This presented a unique challenge, as a typical removal could easily damage the sink.
As a trusted plumbing service operating in the Tampa area, we understand how daunting such situations can be. Our goal was clear: to solve the issue without causing any unnecessary damage or stress to Cory.
The Transformation Process
Determined to rectify the problem, Mike put his skills to the test. He carefully removed the pipes and the garbage disposal, then analyzed the best method to detach the cemented drain from the sink. Utilizing a mix of advanced tools and unwavering dedication, he devised a plan that minimized risk and maximized effectiveness.
Key Steps Taken:
- Assessment: Evaluating the situation to understand the extent and nature of the problem.
- Resourcefulness: Pooling the right tools and techniques to safely detach the cement without breakage.
- Installation: Successfully installing the new disposal unit, ensuring it would function flawlessly.
Mike's dedication to providing a top-notch solution truly made a difference.
The After: A Successful Resolution
With perseverance and skill, Mike not only removed the cemented drain but also installed the new garbage disposal. Cory was ecstatic to have his kitchen back in working order, with the disposal operating smoothly once again.
> “Mike came over to fix my garbage disposal... Instead of giving up, he pooled some resources to figure out the best way to get it off of there without busting the sink itself. With a little bit of determination, he was victorious and got the new disposal in there and working like a champ. Mike is dedicated to do a good job and to do the best he can to solve the problem you are having. I recommend giving him a call for your next drain issue.” — Cory
This project exemplified our commitment to tackling even the most challenging plumbing problems that homeowners face. By applying our expertise and innovative solutions, we left Cory with not just a functioning kitchen but also peace of mind that his plumbing is in capable hands.

Dramatic Drain Clearing in Tampa
Dramatic Drain Clearing in Tampa
At Drains & Things, we believe that plumbing problems shouldn't derail your day. Recently, we received a call from a homeowner in Tampa, Taylor H., who was facing a severe drain clog that had turned into quite a headache. After multiple consultations with other companies, Taylor was advised that replacing the pipes might be the only solution. Fortunately, Taylor reached out to our team for a second opinion.
The Challenge
When we arrived on-site, the challenge was clear: the drain was completely clogged with gunk and grime, and there was even a mysterious metal piece lodged in the pipe, which was contributing to the blockage. Taylor had been told that the situation could be hopeless, leading to potentially costly pipe replacements. Our mission was to clear the blockage effectively and economically, restoring the functionality of the plumbing without unnecessary expenses.
Our Solution
After assessing the situation, we reassured Taylor that it was highly likely we could clear the drain without replacement. Armed with professional tools and our expertise, we began the process using our specialized drain knocker to tackle the blockage.
Here’s how we approached the project:
1. Initial Inspection: We performed a thorough examination of the plumbing system to identify the extent of the blockage.
2. Utilizing the Drain Knocker: This tool is essential for breaking up stubborn clogs, and we used it extensively to dislodge built-up materials in the pipes.
3. Hydro Jetting: Realizing that the situation required a more robust solution after probing for hours without complete success, we decided to use hydro jetting. This technique allowed us to blast away the accumulated grease and debris with high-pressure water.
4. Final Clean-Up: After successfully clearing the clog, we ensured that everything was flowing smoothly, leaving Taylor's plumbing system in excellent condition.
The Positive Outcome
The transformation was remarkable. The amount of grease and debris flushed out during the hydro jetting process was absolutely staggering, and Taylor was thrilled with the results.
> “Mike got the job done! My drain was clogged up so bad and I had been told I should replace the pipes. Over the phone, Mike assured us it likely was just so filled up with gunk and could be cleared with his drain knocker... After him working for hours, we decided to jet the pipe. It worked!! The amount of grease that came out was disgusting and unbelievable!! Mike gave us an AMAZING price and it would’ve likely cost triple+ the amount from other companies. We’re very pleased and will be recommending him to everyone we know!” – Taylor H.
Conclusion
At Drains & Things, we are not just about fixing plumbing problems; we are about providing trustworthy solutions that save our clients time and money. Our dedicated team is proud of the work we've done for Taylor, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to turn a stressful experience into a positive one.
