Excel does a great job from reaching out to schedule our maintenance in advance, showing up on time and cleaning up. The young man who did our service today, Regan, was polite, professional and knowledgeable.

I found this company to have poor communications and customer service. I live in a condo community that used Excel Mechanical to install clothes dryer booster fans. These parts had a 5 year warranty. Mine started to fail after 4 1/2 years and I called Excel to see about a replacement part. One of my neighbors had a similar problem several months earlier than me and also had a hard time getting responses from this company. They put him off for months until he finally wrote a negative review here. That got the attention of the company and his problem was resolved quickly and at no additional cost provided that he withdraw the negative review, which he did.
In my case, I was told the policy had changed and I would be responsible for paying for the part up front and get reimbursed latter. I initially gave verbal consent to this, but then got the invoice. They wanted to charge me $771 for the part, $100 for shipping and $125 for a service charge. The service charge was for their efforts to get me the part and return to the manufacturer (basically some office paperwork). I was to remove and replace the part myself. I called them on this and told them I could get the part online with free shipping for $216.
I felt they were trying to recoup money from having to deal with this from previous customers and this seemed like price gouging. They price was then dropped to $365 and shipping to $30 but I was still to pay full price up front and I might get refunded for the part ‘if’ the manufacturer agreed the part was defective and ‘if’ Excel got repaid. The service charge remained at $125.
I wrote to the company to inform them of my disappointment and that I was not going ahead with the order. I also indicated I wanted no further contact but the Vice President of the company felt compelled to write back anyway. She basically told me the misunderstandings were mine, that they have supply chain issues (the online part, available from several sources were ready for immediate shipment), and that customers should share in the costs and risks associated with doing business. It is my belief that good customer service should be a core part of a company’s business model; not treated as a nuisance, an afterthought, or as a way to get additional revenue. Very poor communications, horrible customer service.
