Really on top of the intro and selling part of the deal. Great communication and interest in me being their client. Susan was friendly and helpful to get our contract going.
However, once they got my signature and deposit it was like pulling teeth to the get the actual project scheduled.
Iβm also a long distance owner, coordinating the project. So itβs especially hard not being in the state. I even flew to VA to chat with them but they ghosted me.
Apparently only the owner of the company, Rafael, can only schedule projects on Fridays but heβs not available most Fridays to chat. Not the person you start the project with. She canβt schedule projects.
I really regret going with FKBD for the project.
I especially regret it because I paid a premium for the labor, and decided to go with this company vs another younger, cheaper company (VA Creative Renovations - Chris is great - check them out) because I thought they would be on top of the project and get it done quickly and get it done well. Apparently not.
There was a lack of follow through and communication. When I did ask for timing and submitted my tile choices with Susan, who was my project manager, she had to call over to Rafael, then heβd call me all grumpy for interrupting his day. Seems like thereβs a control issue. Then when the project was supposed to start there was an issue with the tile I originally chose, even though I had submitted my design choices weeks prior. They said there was a delay with the tile and they had to change the project start date. Meanwhile Iβm trying to coordinate with my tenants. Luckily they are the nicest tenants anyone can ask for.
All in all they did a great job on my bathroom - eventually. You just need to be really on top of them.

Floors Kitchen & Bath Direct. What a wonderful company to deal with. I had a very dated bathroom. Old tub, old tile and very old (original tile) floor. I worked with Rafael and Susan to pick out floor tiles, walls, and all of the bathroom accessories. The remodel turned out gorgeous!!! Nicest looking room in my house! Far exceeded my expectations.

If you are new to the world of major home renovation, this review is for you. Spoiler alert: by the end of the project, we were thrilled with the work and performance of FKB Direct. Here are the take-aways up front for your convenience:
-- Budget performance was EXCELLENT (within 5% of original bid)
-- Schedule was EXCELLENT (issues occurred beyond FKB's control)
-- Execution and Quality were EXCELLENT
We conducted a large internet search of local home contractors in the Northern Virginia area, and FKB Direct was among the short list resulting from our down-selection. Rafi and Susan personally came out to the house for an interview/evaluation of sorts, and based on that interaction we selected them for a major renovation of our kitchen and primary bathroom.
This process began in late February 2022, and we did not get to the punch-out phase until October. The design process was iterative, and the communication from Rafi was very good. He and Susan provided multiple 2D renderings of our spaces until we locked down a final design. They would constantly say "YOU DREAM IT, WE BUILD IT," though we found that the more we dreamt in detail and provided feedback, the closer we got to a design that met/exceeded our expectations. The design process took about a month, and then we entered the Waiting Game of the Arlington County permit process. Going through the permit process easily added ~4 months to our timeline, as the county office was going through major IT changes at the time. The delay actually bought us time to overcome major supply chain issues and long lead times with our fixtures and appliances, so that was a painful plus.
Fast forward to August, and we finally broke ground on the work. We took Rafi's offer to do the kitchen and bathroom simultaneously, and we also chose to live through the construction. THINK TWICE before you make this decision if you have another option; we spent the next two months living in the guest room and using a tiny microwave as our kitchen. If you haven't lived through a renovation before, you need to brace yourself and trust the process. Not only is it loud, dirty, and distracting, but you will also notice issues mid-construction that will scare the wits out of you. We aired many grievances throughout the construction, and Rafi must've said 100 times: "Trust me guys. When it's done, you're gonna love it. I promise!"
I'm glad to say Rafi was right. The original construction schedule was around one month, and the actual schedule was closer to 2 months -- I consider that a big win. When we had issues, we raised them. Rafi addressed them. Once we got to the punch-out phase in October, we had a laundry list of items for correction (common with any construction project). FKB was flawlessly patient and corrected every single item without hesitation. Maybe most importantly, they never tried to nickel and dime us for changes or corrections. We did make some upgrades along the way, and even with those changes, the final cost came within 5% of the original budget despite huge 2022 challenges with labor, supply chains, and inflation. Nearly the entire 5% was due to changes we directed for upgraded items.
The final products are AMAZING! This was an expensive undertaking, and we feel we got every penny of value (and then some) out of it. Our friends and family rave about our new spaces, and we have passed on FKB's contact info to several folks since then. We wholeheartedly endorse them, their work, and their professionalism. We would hire them again for future projects of small and large complexity without hesitation.
In conclusion, take this first-time renovator's word for it: hire FKB and trust their process. It will be overwhelming at times, and you will reach a point -- probably several times -- where you are not sure how you are going to get there from here. Rafi will not quit until you get what you want. :)

With 100% certainty I recommend Floors Kitchen & Bath Direct. Not only were they eager to answer any questions I had at the beginning of our project, but their quickness, kindness, and overall excellent work was absolutely top notch. I canβt thank the company enough for their work with us and I would definitely work with them again if the need came up.
The project itself lasted five days and included demoing the original shower floor and wall tiles. Once that part was done they installed the shower floor and wall tiles we selected and would ask us questions about anything they were curious about (whether we wanted the wall tiles to be vertical/horizontal, did we want them staggered, what color grout, etc). The fellas that performed the demo and install showed up early each day and were as respectful as can possibly me. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

We had Rafi, Susan, and the FKBD team fully renovate our Kitchen, our Master Bath, our first floor Flooring, paint 3 different levels of our home, and install several chandeliers. I can't recommend Rafi and Susan enough. Rafi and Susan are professional, responsive, and go above and beyond to make sure you are happy with everything.
Not only does their team provide the highest quality work, they are always welcome to feedback and will do whatever it takes to make sure you are happy with the finish product all the way down to the finishes. From all the contractors we interviewed, Rafi and Susan provided the best value and the best customer service.
Our gas range was delivered with a large dent. I talked with the delivery man, and he refused to take it back and told me to call the vendor and left. When I told Susan and Rafi, they called that delivery company and were on the phone for hours escalating to the highest management until they agreed to take back the gas range that day. Low and behold, a couple hours later, that same delivery man came and picked up the gas range. And I was able to immediately order a new one.
Also, they gave me a 5-week timeline for the renovation and everything was done in 5 weeks. My wife and I worked from home and we were amazed with progress we saw everyday. And after 1-year later, everything still looks like new. It's amazing the quality of finishes they use and everything has held up to the highest quality. And yes, my wife, 2 kids, and I lived through the renovation. The team cleaned up everyday and made sure to minimize the dust as much as possible. So when the team left every night, we were unaffected by the dust and debris.
Again, I can't recommend the team enough and you will not be disappointed.
