I can hardly put into words how frustrating this experience has been, and I feel completely taken advantage of. While the industry standard for LVP labor costs are $1-$5 per sq. ft., I was convinced to agree to an hourly rate of $80 (despite their advertised $59/hour). Now I see whyâit was a way to milk as much money as possible from small, simple projects. Itâs appalling that it took three days for a âprofessionalâ to install only 180 sq. ft. out of the 1,700 sq. ft. I needed done.
It doesnât take 6 hours to install 15 sq. ft. in a powder bath, especially when I did all the prep and gluing myself. This shouldâve taken 2 hours max even at a slow pace since I did all the time consuming stuff beforehand. Nor should it take nearly 6 hours to make 17 cuts up to the staircase baseboardsâI tested this myself and did 3 cuts in 10 minutes. Why did someone whoâs âskilledâ take 5.5 hours? This job shouldâve been completed in 2 hours tops.
I raised concerns early on and we eventually agreed to a flat rate to finish the remaining work which still was incredibly pricey considering I did everything myself but felt slightly better to get just be done with it at that point. By Day 3, I was promised faster progress, but instead, it took him 7 hours to install 150 sq. ft. of mostly straight cuts, which I then had to redo myself due to the extreme poor quality of the work. I stayed up until 1 a.m. pulling up, recutting, and reinstalling his work to ensure the glue didnât cure further. By this point I messaged them saying Iâd rather finish myself because this was not help I had in mind when I decided to hire but now back to square one where the money weâve pain in thus far doesnât justify the work that was done and I had asked him if he would charge for 5 hrs of his time for the stairs and bathroom as that is fair pricing to his competitors for skilled labor and refund the rest and he refused.
As a stay-at-home mom with no professional experience, I was able to redo 150 sq. ft. in just 4 hoursâdouble the work in half the time, with better results that he said wasnât possible. This included fixing misaligned boards, uneven cuts, and improper staggering and using scraps to do my floors and try to hide his mistakesâall things he failed to address. His poor workmanship was riddled with excuses and deflection, but I proved his claims were entirely untrue which is kind of insulting since I had installed most of this flooring myself so far at that point even with him here working with zero issues.
So far Iâve had to lay 1,500 sq. ft. of flooring myself in less time than it took him to do 20 sq. ft. This should be unethicalâto charge almost $1,000 for that and the work of this quality and pace is insanity. Now, Iâll have to finish the project myself and hope I have enough flooring and glue after his waste. Despite all this, he only refunded me $310 towards the 150 sq. ft. I had to redo, refusing to adjust the excessive charges for the bathroom and stairs which was double than it shouldâve been, even making the comment that I didnât have to hire him no made me, which is extremely unprofessional.
This experience was deeply upsetting and incredibly unfair. I hired them to save time, but I ended up paying almost $1000 to do nearly everything myself at a fraction of the time and with better results which is a very sucky feeling especially when I was quoted by another company $1200 to do it all without any of my involvement. I showed him the quote and he justified his excessive charges by claiming I was lied too but yet it was in writing by another company and not his place to speak for them. I cannot recommend this company for floor installationâsave yourself the frustration, Iâd hire someone else.
