Drilled through a wire and told me not to worry!
Very responsive and quick to schedule. I had them come to hang a magnet board on my wall. The person who came did not speak very good English, which made it hard to communicate over some of my concerns with mounting, but he put someone else on his phone to help translate. Unfortunately while he was drilling the holes for the toggle bolts (which he decided to use instead of the provided hardware) the power cut in the room! I was very concerned about this and told him the power was out. He didn't initially realize it and tried to tell me it was because he tugged on a cable. I showed him how everything was off and he went to check my breaker panel and flipped the break back on--power was back--he told me no problem. I was still concerned and proceeded to research on my phone what this could mean. As he screwed the board in the power cut AGAIN! He went back to the breaker and tried to flip it and this time it did not go back on. So he just went back and took the screw out of the hole and replaced it with a shorter one and it flipped back on again. I was not happy and I told him I think he drilled through a wire and that it needs to be repaired. He put the person on the phone again and they told me it was no problem--if he really drilled through a wire he would have been electrocuted and since the breaker is back on it should be fine. They even offered to consult with an electrician just to be sure. He completed his work and left.
My online research told me the situation required an electrician. So I had to hire an electrician to come out and he found that there indeed had been a wire that was pierced and it was very dangerous (could lead to a fire). He fixed it. Handy Gators reached back out to me to say their electrician said everything is fine--not to worry! I let them know their electrician was wrong and that I was having someone fix it. I asked if they could help pay the repair cost and they said they would need the receipt and they would ask their insurance. They offered to come back and fix the holes in the wall and re-mount the board.
They did come back a few days later and fixed the holes and remounted the board without charging me. They ended up offering to split the electrical cost with me rather than cover the entire amount, saying that they did as I asked and couldn't have know there was a wire there. I am appreciative that they covered some of the cost here and that they came back at no extra cost, but I think it all could have been avoided if they had used a stud finder prior to drilling, or checked that there was an outlet on the other side of the wall--or been a little less aggressive with drilling their holes (they drilled into insulation in another hole).
I would be much happier were they to take full responsibility for the cost of the repair here. I can understand making a mistake if you can be responsible for rectifying it. I do not know if they intentionally misled me about danger of situation they left or not, but i think that if they did not understand the seriousness of drilling through a wire then there is concern over their expertise. If they knew what they were doing then there is concern over their integrity.
Beyond the wire piercing, they did a good job mounting the board level. The patchwork on the drywall was ok.
