Merrifield is not a the cheapest place in town but it is a "get what you pay for" value. We have shopped at the nursery multiple times (very cool place) and I just used them for mulch delivery. I ordered the same amount of mulch from another nursery before but Merrifield brought easily 30% more for the same order. I had to ask the driver to take some back and he could have not have been more accommodating. I even got a call from their office giving me a refund for the mulch I returned.

No less than 7 phone calls back and forth to find MY plants-plants I'd paid for & was repeatedly told I didn't buy on my 1 & only visit to Merrifield..."maybe I'd purchased from a different location". There was "no 'order'". I hadn't ordered, I'd paid for these in person & was to pick up the following week. The clerk at checkout had said "no paperwork needed" bc "El Jefe had helped" me. Just my receipt w no note of having left w no plants bc "it was in holding w name & ph number". I was eventually, despite telling the same story, able to get 'through' & be 'heard'-finally my plants were found more than a week later. I was trying to make arrangements for them to now be scheduled for delivery & planting, something I'd already discussed & been given the % additional cost during the saga of the missing trees. Since we were beyond a week after I was supposed to pick up these missing plants & my experience had been so poor, after being told a new department would now being handling my delivery and charges for that, I asked for the 'new department' to call me to confirm everything before I was charged. Instead, a young woman called & scheduled w me but after doing so told me I'd already been charged, that my paid for amount had to be returned to a gift card in order to be transferred to the delivery department & that it had been used as part of payment so my cc would show the difference. That sounded odd but ok bc the math should come out the same. Then I heard the total- it did NOT match. We couldn't seem to get to the bottom of why so I asked for it to be emailed. ( I was aggravated that it was charged BF I was called.) After looking at the receipt, I realized the plants were charged@ a higher rate than I'd paid & then the delivery charges I'd been told were added. I called to find out why and was curtly told that the small discount I'd been given was a cash & carry discount only- something I neither knew nor was told in any of the multiple calls when trying to find the missing plants & to ask if they could now just be delivered. $40 extra may not seem like a lot but when the plants weren't located or available at the store closest to me, they wouldn't discuss a transfer of the plants to a closer store to minimize delivery despite them LOSING my plants, & then I'm charged more than I was told BF I was spoken with after so many calls back & forth and time wasted due to their mistakes....well, I'd had enough. I called back after locating the same plants at a competitor's nursery. That group found what I wanted at a different location than the one closest to me, transferred them to the closer store, will be delivering & planting them w/in the week. Savings of nearly $100 AND they respected my time and money. Not the end...I explained what had happened & requested a full refund. I was told I would receive one but had my ph number taken in case there were any problems. Nobody called. 2 days later I get a call, thinking I'm being told my refund is through and maybe an apology from somebody in management, but instead it is a delivery driver expecting to plant the trees in an hour. Nope! I told him I'd returned everything 2 days prior then I promptly called the store to ask them to please communicate w delivery & let me know what was going on. I would give zero stars except that Howard was so fantastic when I was at Merrifield, knew his trees and ornamentals, was so gracious and kind that it is worth 2 stars. Had everybody else in the chain that followed been reliable, this place would be fantastic. I'm so sad that it wasn't. A designer friend had told me to go there so I drove an hour just to see how they'd be with one purchase of two trees. This was the test before sitting down with a designer and ordering a yard full of plants to fulfill a design. Their loss & my wasted time. So sad bc I thought they had lovely plants despite being a bit more expensive than a large competitor. I would've spent it had they had any followthrough beyond a wonderful man who knew his plants and Nick, the young guy who'd initially started helping me find what I was specifically searching for. An hour there, an hour back, so many calls and wasted time over nearly 3 weeks....zero stars except for two good people when there in person.

We had such a nice time here! The layout is beautiful and the staff was SOO helpful. We came in with no idea what we needed, and left with everything we needed in order to turn our balcony into a little garden retreat. A little pricey.. but totally worth the trip.
