We live in Sunnyvale, and our house, like many in Sunnyvale, was built with a gas furnace but no AC. With the summers getting hotter every year, weโve been wanting AC for a long time. The biggest hurdle weโve been facing is that our house has only 100A service. All of the HVAC vendors until recently told us that we need 200A service to have enough capacity to run AC. However, our service is underground, and the conduit is 2 inches in diameter. The wires are large enough to support 200A service, and 2 inch conduit meets the requirement for the National Electrical Code, but PG&E for some reason requires 3 inch conduit for 200A service (their own rule). Installing 3 inch conduit requires the street to be dug up, which costs about $20K, including fees which PG&E piles on top of the cost of the contractor. Thatโs a big barrier. But Sam at Plum told us that we actually do have enough capacity, and that all we needed is a new subpanel, because the old one did not have enough space for the additional breakers required for AC. Actually, instead of just adding AC to our 20 year old gas furnace, we decided to get rid of the gas furnace and install a Bryant slimline heat pump. Sam recommended an electrician who came over promptly and installed a subpanel with space for more breakers. In addition, our old ducts had asbestos boots leading to the registers in the floor. Two other vendors offered to replace our ducts at a cost of $12-15K. Sam offered us a much better price for this improvement. The new ducts are larger than the old ones, which were not big enough for AC. They enlarged most of the floor registers to allow more air flow into the house. Also, the new ducts are better insulated and less leaky. The Bryant slimline heat pump outside is very quiet. The air handler in the house makes a low pitched hum but is not bothersome. Itโs no more noisy than our old furnace which was also very quiet. Sam and his crew (Jake and Ha) are honest and straightforward. They are polite and clean up after themselves every day. This was important because we were present in our home while they were working on the project. We are very pleased with our new HVAC system, and the process of getting it installed was relatively painless. In the process leading up to the installation we interviewed about 7 or 8 contractors. For some reason only 3 or 4 of them even gave us a bid, and some waited a long time to do so. Sam gave us a bid right away, and we were favorably impressed with his calm and straightforward manner. In addition, his bid was reasonably priced. We highly recommend Plum HVAC.

Sam gave a great estimate, and did all the permit work. His team came on the scheduled date and completed the entire installation within 2 days. a small problem of a water leak was detected on a weekend and Sam came promptly and corrected the situation. I would highly recommend them to install a heat pump HVAC.

Staff Jack and Ha did a great job. They talked to customer as to electric wire running at the beginning. They are very efficient at installing. Two staff coordinated very well. They told customer how to test and use the unit briefly but well enough.

The crew did an excellent job installing a three zone heat pump split system in my home. They were $5k cheaper than the next best offer I got, and I'm extremely happy with how clean the install looks. I would happily hire them again if I needed more work in future.
