Mehran was a pleasure to work with. He was patient with us during our design phase and attentive during the construction process. His team, mostly Victor, provided high quality craftsmanship and fine attention to the details. Like most construction jobs, ours required a few change orders and Mehran and Victor accommodated us without hesitation so as to get the job done right and to our highest satisfaction.

Further, at some point during the shower pan install, one individual (which logic suggests may be Mehran) installed a white flange above the plumber's orange flange for our Infinity Drain.Ā The tile guys installed up to the higher white flange not knowing that the orange flange for the Infinity Drain was underneath.Ā When they finished, they reported, they could not install the main body for the Infinity Drain as they already tiled and grouted.Ā The plumber and the tile guys were confused as to what happened to the orange flange.Ā Only upon cutting in the area around the drain did they realize that someone (presumably Mehran) stacked a flange on top of another flange, which hid the orange flange.Ā We again had anxiety about this process and started making friends with other contractors.Ā Unanimously, they stated the proper approach would have been to redo the shower pan.Ā Again, the Mehrans did not adopt this approach as they did not want to spend money to fix their mistake; and we believe they took a shortcut.Ā Again, simple communication could have avoided this debacle.Ā
3)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Complete disregard for our personal property and the work of prior contractors
Much of our house is remodeled and most of our furniture is brand new.Ā Despite several warnings and instructions not to, they would leave heavy and sharp tools on brand new furniture.Ā Also, they would frequently leave tire markets on our brand new smooth stucco.Ā When we mentioned that they left tire marks on our smooth stucco, one worker used what to him was an unknown substance in a spray bottle (it was Captain Jack's bug spray) and used it to grudgingly clean a tire mark and then proceeded to take our scrub brush as his own.Ā Other cleaning supplies, microfiber cloths, and tools were also taken.Ā We have asked for these items back, but have yet to receive them.Ā
Ā
We also had to pay our neighbors (who have trucks) to dump trash for us that was accumulating in our garage. As our job was delayed, trash would accumulate and most of their workers did not want to remove the trash. Further, Mehran and his workers - again due to lack of communication - would misplace items needed for install in their trash pile. Significant time was spent rummaging for the correct screws, attempting to find brackets, and we even found brand new items in their trash pile next to food wrappers.Ā Luckily, we were able to find them before they were thrown away.Ā
Ā
4)Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Disregard for our time and our neighbors
The Mehrans often ignored my requests.Ā As a younger female, I noticed they often disregarded my statements and were dismissive of my concerns.Ā Mehran literally cut off the conversation and stormed away when I pointed out what was going wrong with the job.Ā One of his workers had to meet his deadline for the hot mop guy and was working until midnight to finish his framing.Ā We like to get along with our neighbors and we live in a coastal town; our neighbors live in close proximity to us and construction noise is loud.Ā We had to apologize for his worker working way beyond allowed time limits to meet his deadline.Ā Further, his worker also decided to show up - against our wishes - on Thanksgiving.Ā We live in a duplex with a connected water line.Ā HE TURNED OFF OUR WATER AND OUR NEIGHBOR'S WATER ON THANKSGIVING DAY.Ā When I mentioned the inappropriateness of such actions, he insultingly implied that we should be grateful that they were willing to work on Thanksgiving.Ā We did not invite them to work on Thanksgiving and we definitely did not prefer it.Ā They worked on Thanksgiving because according to the words of their own worker, he had to start another (bigger) job for them in Anaheim.Ā For every other project we have done for our house such as the pavers or landscaping, our neighbors loved our contractor and ultimately hired them - as they were respectful and diligent.Ā Our neighbors have an awful opinion of Mehran and his company and we do not blame them.Ā Our neighbors have had to put up with their driveways blocked, Mehran smoking, cigarette butts in planters or their kids walking barefoot and stepping on a used cigarette butt, workers working during inappropriate hours and days, and a job that was estimated to take a couple weeks lasting over half a year.Ā
Ā
We have been courteous and tried to be helpful.Ā We have moved both our cars out of the garage and parked in the street so their workers could park in the garage.Ā We even offered to help them unload their tools and equipment if their cars could not fit in the garage.Ā However, Mehran even for the most recent inspection (for a permit) parked in the middle of a common, shared motor court - blocking both ingress and egress for four separate residences.Ā Moreover, he recently dropped a drill (pointy side down) on one of the members of our household.Ā We can excuse an accident or maybe one time of disrupting our neighbors and delays, but this has been routine behavior for 7 months.

THEY CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE PROPERTY THAT WE ENDED UP PAYING FOR
The kitchen sink (beneath their bathroom remodel job) flooded. Apparently, they did not cover up the drains at all times during the course of install and construction debris fell inside the drain and caused the drain to back up. When we informed them of the flooding, the Mehrans just seemed annoyed and one of the Mehrans stated it was probably a tree when we do not have any large trees near our residence. He also just said we should just pour Drano down the pipe.
We paid for a separate drain company to clean out the drain. They affirmed that pouring Drano is awful advice and also observed that Mehran and his workers should have covered the drain at all times to ensure that debris was not going down the drain and causing a drain backup.
Our outlets also stopped working during the course of the bathroom remodel. It seems their workers overloaded a circuit, but the Mehrans did not even bother looking into it and we ended up paying for an electrician to diagnose and fix the problem.
Another worker also broke an outlet plate when they ripped out one of their tools too aggressively. Mehran initially said it was not part of his job to fix it and after much argument, he grudgingly just screwed in a gigantic screw that did not match the existing and wore out the threading. Interestingly, one of his workers actually said that Mehran's process was incorrect. Mehran's response was that the worker is an "idiot" and that he "works for him" and that he "should shut his mouth." We ended up just hiring someone else to replace the whole outlet.
One of their workers had to cut into the drywall to our bedroom closest after making a mistake. We bought a new gallon of paint for the worker - even though it was their mistake. Mehran said he would reimburse us for the paint; this still has not happened.
Recently, Mehran also attempted to finish the job of one of his electrical workers. The walls are all tile and the junction box is deeply recessed and any damage to the box would mean breaking the tile to replace the box. He again did not put in the right sized screws and jammed in super thick screws that destroyed the box. The issue could have been easily avoided by using the right-sized screws. It now looks like we'll have to replace the tile, which would be fairly expensive or other distasteful options like cutting through a stem wall to restore these boxes.
They also have scratched our windows with construction debris, our new double windows now do not slide properly, we have holes in the concrete where the bathroom meets the garage, as well as other items that were damaged during the course of the install.
BAIT AND SWITCH AND LACK OF DILIGENCE
They quoted a certain price for the downstairs bathroom. The second Mehran got involved and they jacked up the price substantially using the cost for the permit as the excuse. Mehran was evasive and refused to provide the information on how much was paid for the permit (a friendly associate at Home Depot showed us how to look up the permit info when we had to pick up their supplies that they neglected to acquire). The actual cost of the permit is about $400; they ended up charging nearly a 700% premium over the actual cost for the permit. I have talked to several other contractors and none of them would have charged such a premium for a small downstairs bathroom - that is already existing; this is not a room addition or new construction. What initially seemed like a good deal was not and the Mehrans contradicted themselves on numerous occasions on how many times an inspector would have to visit and what was required for the permit. Frankly, it seemed they wanted to find out a way to make more money on the project once we had a contract with them.
Shockingly, the night before the final inspection, our bathroom had no vacancy sensor and they could not answer whether the installed lighting qualified as high efficacy and other Title 24 requirements for the permit. Indeed, even our main light was not installed as they lost the bracket for our light. My son spent a considerable amount of time researching Title 24 to ensure that the bathroom was in compliance with those standards and running around to different stores to find a replacement bracket for the one that they lost.
We seemed to be at the bottom of their priority list and they frequently took a dismissive tone with us and abruptly ended the conversation when we asked them questions.
The silver lining in working with the MEHRANS - which has been a NIGHTMARE - is that we have made multiple friends in the trades and other contractors (including neighbors and relatives of neighbors) who were dismayed at how long the job was taking and how poorly the job was managed. There are good and fair people out there who are trying to earn an honest living and be helpful to people - the Mehrans were not and based on my experience, I cannot recommend them.

We wanted to remodel our newly bought house kitchen, we interviewed few contractors and we picked them out, glad we did! Mehran was professional, responsive and fair. Their crew was professional, polite and quick. What I liked the most was extra follow up they did even after the project was done. They made sure that the job is done the way we wanted it. Overall, I highly recommend them.

End to end a fantastic experience with our master bathroom remodel! The design team really listened and the contractor was very detail oriented to make sure the project turned out perfect. Even with some unexpected issues it was finished in under 3 weeks. Highly recommended!

My experience with Torrance Kitchen was excellent. They were expert on all phases of the Job - design, demolition, raising ceiling, moving kitchen, flooring, painting & lighting, etc. I would work them again. They made the renovation easy.
