Very pleased with the overall experience with Green Collar, from the initial visit to the final inspection. The crews were experienced, polite and not afraid to crawl around under the house or in the attic and get dirty. They followed through on every promise made during the initial visit. They coordinated with the City of Austin regarding city inspections, and they applied for the rebates on our behalf. The first full billing cycle after the work was completed showed a considerable reduction in kWh usage over the same period in 2011 (the summer from hell) and also 2010. I no longer wince when the AC kicks on, because I know how much more efficient we are, as a result of their work.

My house was built in 1952 and when I bought it in 2004 I took a look in the attic and saw what I thought was plenty of insulation. It measured about 8 inches thick. After this scorching summer and my recent MS diagnosis, I had huge bills and knew something more needed to be done. As a green building and energy efficiency enthusiast, I decided I wanted a true energy audit. Enter Green Collar Operations. I made an appointment and the staff arrived right on time. No 4-hour window, just an exact time and we began the audit. It was determined that my insulation, while it looked substantial to me, was significantly under the recommendations for efficiency (USGBC and Austin Energy Green Building standards are those referenced). I got a bid and they came back later the same week to perform the work.
They are handling the rebates through Austin Energy, so that was seamless and could not have been easier. The prices were very competitive and I felt the value to be tremendous. When the guys left, they cleaned up and left everything in great order.
The next morning, I noticed there was actually a small leak that we discovered. We called the next morning, and got a "fix it" appointment the same day-- Friday the 18th. I think it was the owner who came back and again, the service was impeccable; he offered to replace a valve if that might have been disturbed in the leak fixing. Anyway, in the service industry, I always view a good transaction as just that: good. When an issue arises, it is an opportunity to win a customer for life. The handling of our small issue was perfect. I'll tell everyone I know about you all. Luckily, Brad gave me ten business cards. I'll distribute them to family as we give thanks for comfort in our homes and better living through insulation!
Thanks for a great service you provide and for the great staff you have come into our homes.

I hired Green Collar via a sub contractor AirCo (who installed a new AC system - loved AirCO btw)
1. Long story short, one of the guys dropped a bucket of sealing mastic on our carpet. They sent a guy out to clean it, it didn't work. They mailed me $150 check but now the carpet I have in about 1,000SF needs to be replaced.
2. The doors were not sealed properly, I can still feel the air flowing
3. The cheap clear caulk they used around the inside windows has fully dried and looks horrible. It was applied too wide and thin, and now becomes a permanent dust collector.
4. When a performance "test" was completed, it wasn't clear to me that anything was really being tested. I might be wrong here but I would think a before and after test would have meaning.
All in all a horrible experience, I really liked the owner but bottom line, a bad company to work with. They have a great website but don't get fooled. Also, the owner is very marketing savvy, thus I wouldn't put it past him to stack his own reviews.
- I've also file a complaint with the BBB.

--First: Know the GCO is smart enough to "stack" their positive reviews. Meaning, they have friends and family etc write reviews.
I hired Green Collar via a sub contractor AirCo (who installed a new AC system) BTW, this reputable AC company no longer works with Green Collar.

All in all a horrible experience, I really liked the owner but bottom line, they hire kids who don't care about your house, thus a bad company to work with. They have a great website, Green Collar is a very marketing savvy group but don't get fooled into allowing them into your house. Additionally, I wouldn't put it past them to "stack" their own reviews

I called this company on a referral from a neighbor. I wanted an Energy Audit and was not pleased with the type of "audit" performed. All the guy did was go up in my attic, come down and tell me there was nothing he could do to help us. He didn't suggest adding insulation anywhere, his loss. We do need more insulation, I figure this guy just didn't want to do it or is just that incapable of performing an audit.
I don't know about you, but an Energy Audit should be more than a walk into the attic. I am glad it was free, but I will never recommend them.

I'm very happy that I wasn't sold things I didn't need. The auditor came out and we crawled around the attic to check the insulation and duct work. He didn't try to nickle and dime me or convince me I needed something I didn't. They installed a solar fan and the installation looks professional. I recommend getting a consultation from this company.
