My issue was a badly plugged kitchen sink. I contacted a trusted friend for a plumber recommendation who suggested Mario's Plumbing. The ratings on Yelp are excellent. So I set up an appointment.
My overall rating for Mario's Plumbing is 3 stars. It is the average of 5 stars for excellent workmanship and 1 star for pricing of the job. Let me explain:
Frank was the technician who came out yesterday. He wore a mask and shoe coverings. He said that it would cost $375 to clear the clogged sink drain. Then he said that he would highly recommend doing a "hydro flush" because it would do a much better job. He predicted that with the "less expensive" job, the drain would clog again and I would be coming back to him and spend more money in the end. He said the hydo flush would cost $875 and would come with a 6 month guarantee. This sounded like a pretty high price to me. I did decide to have him use the hydro flush which is simply inserting a hose into the drain with a tip that sprays a high pressure stream of water against the blockage. Four small pails of very dirty water were ejected before the blockage was cleared. The entire process took less than 1 hour.
I paid the $875 with a personal check and was happy to have my sink draining properly again.
Then I began to wonder if the price for the hydro flush was really "fair" and decided to call other plumbers to see what they would charge to clean a kitchen drain with hydro flush. The four different quotes I got yesterday were $650, $495, $475 and $325.
When I sent Mario an email with this information, he immediately sent Frank back to talk to me. Frank asked me what I thought would be a fair price and based only on the four different quotes mentioned above I suggested a price of $500. Frank accepted this offer without hesitation. I wrote the check for this amount and he departed.
About a week later I discovered a leak under the kitchen sink I thought was related to the job mentioned above. It turns out that it was a leaky valve and was not related. I asked Frank what it would cost to fix the problem and he quoted me $185. Again I said this sounded high and again he asked what I was willing to pay. Based on his initial quote I said I would pay $100 which he accepted. It took less than 15 minutes to replace the leaky valve for which I paid an additional $15 for the parts. Frank asked if I could pay in cash but not having any cash I wrote a check for $115.
I'm an 81 year old man who has lived in my house for 42 years. This was the first time I ever had to call a plumber. Frank did an excellent job with the repairs. My issue is with the manner in which he quoted my jobs. The first job, clearing the drain was quoted at a rate of $875/hour. The second job of replacing the leaky valve which took less than 15 minutes was quoted at $185 or $740/hour. For the two jobs totaling 1 hour and 15 minutes the sum of the initial quotes came to $1060 or $848/hour.
I did not end up paying $1060 for the two jobs. After one additional "negotiation" I paid $300 to clear the drain and $100 to replace the valve for a total of $400 (labor cost - $320/hour). The friend mentioned above paid $220 to have his drain cleared by Mario himself - it took about an hour.
My mistake was relying solely on the high ratings Mario has received on Yelp and not getting several quotes before choosing a plumber. Perhaps Mario could comment on how he establishes his quotes.
As a customer in need of plumbing service, I would much prefer being quoted your non-negotiable lowest price for your service.
I hope future potential customers for plumbing repair with Mario's Plumbing or any other plumbing contractor will find my account useful.

5 Stars for Mario's Plumbing Services (wish I could give them more).
1) On a Friday after 5pm a couple weeks ago I contacted Mario about an exterior pipe that broke earlier that day. This pipe is the water source for the entire house, so we had no running water in the house at all. This was an emergency. I contacted Mario and within a couple hours his team arrived, investigated, and fixed the pipe. The job was done very professionally and I was very fortunate to get the price I got and service on the same day. I called several places to get a quote, and Mario's was hundreds less than some of the prices I was given. FYI, same day/emergency service can be very expensive.
2) I contacted Mario again for a separate appointment a few weeks later to look at something else. His team did a quick and thorough inspection and did not charge me at all.
The team is quick, courteous, professional, and safe (wears masks at all times and also wears those shoe covers if entering your home). I would definitely use Mario again.

My kitchen sink had been clogged for weeks, not knowing the bottom line issues. After calling Mario's plumbing, and speaking with Kevin, who was recommended by a family member. They immediately responded with a time and date. Thanks to Mario and his crew for completely fixing the problem. Thanks again to Franco for going under my house. My hat goes off to anyone that goes underneath a house and viewing potential dead rodents, cats, racoon and creepy spiders . Franco had to eventually replace a pipe in which he took a picture while under the house, to prove the point. I will recommend this service over and over again. Thanks Mario plumbing for your promptness, kindness and honest. And thank you Franco and Kevin.

Called Mario's Plumbing Service and he immediately sent out Christian. We needed work done since we were having a washing machine delivered the next day and the pipes were leaking. Christian called and said if he could come earlier than the set appointment, and we were elated since it's usually the other way around.
Christian Was very professional and did a great job. By the way, my husband had called another plumber, we had used in the past, but 2 days later he still had not returned his call so I went on Yelp and found Mario's Plumbing Service. I'm so happy we found Mario's. Any plumbing problems we have in the future, we'll be calling Mario's.

I requested an estimate via Yelp and received a response right away asking about the job I needed and offering to set up a free visual inspection to provide an accurate quote. They showed up right on time and the employees were very polite, courteous, and explained everything very clearly. I was impressed with how responsive, communicative, and accommodating they were, so I hired them for the job. Despite being late on the day of the job, they still completed it on time and as expected. I was very happy overall and would call them again.
